The Limmer Custom Boot

Since 1919, we’ve been building boots the same way; slowly, by hand, and with a level of attention that doesn’t exist in modern manufacturing. Known around the world for fit, durability, and a design that favors function over trend. Limmer Custom Boots are built for those who haven’t found what they need in mass-produced footwear, whether due to foot shape, hard use, or simply a desire to own the best pair of hiking boots they will ever put on. Learn what goes into a custom-fit boot.

Reserve Your Place

For decades, there has been a waitlist, "the backlog", for our boots handmade in Intervale. The current wait is approximately 24-36 months. Every pair, whether Full Custom or our Semi-Custom boots, requires a place on this same backlog. Your spot in line is secured with a nonrefundable $100 deposit (applied to the final cost).

Full Custom

Your boot is built on a last shaped entirely to your own feet, from measurements and tracings taken at your appointment. This is the original Limmer process, best suited to unusual foot shapes, asymmetry, or hard use ahead.

Semi-Custom

Your boot is built on our house last, offered in whole and half sizes 4–14, three widths. Same construction, materials, and craftsmanship as Full Custom.

Leather & Hardware

For 50 years, Limmer boots were offered in a single leather and hardware finish. Today, several combinations are available — all built to the same Limmer standard.

The Backlog & Pricing

The wait has always been part of the Limmer process. We keep production small and hands-on, which means every pair is built by a craftsperson who expects to see that boot again years later for resoling or care.

The Process

When your name reaches the top of the backlog, you’ll receive a letter in the mail stating that your time has come. From there, you will have 30 days to schedule your fitting. During your visit, we take final measurements and tracings, discuss use and terrain, review any special requirements, and collect final payment. If you’re unable to visit within 30 days, you may hold your spot for an additional year with a follow-up deposit.

Fitting in Intervale, NH — or at a Regional Event

To ensure a true Limmer fit, we strongly recommend visiting our shop in Intervale, New Hampshire, 1.5 hours from Portland, ME, and about 3 hours from Boston, MA. The White Mountains have been part of the Limmer story since 1950, and we invite you to experience that history when you visit.

If travel isn't possible, you may also attend one of our Regional Fitting Events held in select cities throughout the year. [Reach out about options in your area.]

Guarantee of Fit

If we meet with you in person, we guarantee the fit of your boots. For clients using self-taken measurements, we will work closely with you throughout the build, but please note that we cannot guarantee fit without an in-person fitting.

Deposit Terms

The $100 deposit is applied to the cost of your custom boots and is nonrefundable and nontransferable. If purchasing as a gift, please contact us with the recipient’s name at the time of reservation.
